Trinidad and Tobago, a multifaceted nation brimming with diversity and vitality! With a breathtaking abundance of wildlife and scenic beauty, our culture has many roots including African, Asian, Indian, and European heritage, and our pre-Lenten Carnival has been dubbed ‘The Greatest Show on Earth’. In addition, our economy has shown enormous potential throughout the past five decades, specifically due the possession of an abundance of natural resources and a highly skilled workforce. In fact, fervent attempts are being made to drive Trinidad and Tobago’s economy to developed nation status by the year 2020, a mighty feat for a nation with a mere population of about 1.3 million. Not surprisingly, therefore, foreign investors from far and wide have become quite intrigued by the immense capabilities of our small twin-island republic.

22nd September 2008 IMPLEMENTATION! MAKE IT HAPPEN The Trinidad and Tobago Chamber of Industry and Commerce is of the view that the 2009 budget as presented by the Honourable Karen Nunez-Tesheira, Minister of Finance was all embracing and all encompassing as expected. However the Chamber is seriously concerned that the implementation of all the various projects as outlined by the Honourable Minister, many of which require legislative reform, can be stymied by inadequate capacity in the office of the Chief Parliamentary Council (CPC). The Chamber’s primary concerns this year were Inflation, Food Security, Lawlessness and National Productivity. In the Chambers’ view, no new or effective initiatives were identified to resolve these issues. The Chamber is also concerned about the repetition of several key projects for which allocations had already been made in previous budgets. The Chamber commends the Minister of Finance for the socially based initiatives and particularly those that impact directly on the lives of senior citizens and the disadvantages The Chamber now awaits clarification and further details in the forthcoming debates.
